  • 2 cups textured soy protein
  • 1 3/4 cups water boiling
  • 1/2 cup ketchup no sugar added
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce no sugar added
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tbsp agave nectar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce low sodium, NO SODIUM BENZOATE
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
  • 1/2 cup onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup carrot peeled, chopped
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 4-6 buns hamburger whole wheat, toasted


  • Combine the textured soy protein and the boiling water in a large bowl then let stand for 10 minutes.
  • Mix together the ketchup, barbecue sauce, vinegar, agave, soy sauce and chili powder in a medium sized bowl then set aside.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat then saute the onion and carrot for about 6 minutes. Stir the sauce into the saucepan then bring to a boil; mix in the reconstituted soy protein and 3/4 cup water.
  • Reduce the heat to low; cover and cook for another 20 minutes. Once cooked serve on the toasted hamburger buns and enjoy!
