  • 28 oz braised wheat gluten (mock duck) canned, drained, patted dry


  • 2 tbsp soy sauce low sodium, NO SODIUM BENZOATE
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp agave nectar
  • 1/2 tsp smoke paprika powder
  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke
  • 2 tbsp olive oil extra virgin


  • Mix all the marinade ingredients together in a large bowl except the olive oil.
  • Place the wheat gluten pieces in the marinade; mix well. Place in the refrigerator to marinate for about 2 hours then remove pieces from the marinade and set to the side.
  • Swirl the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and cook the pieces for 5 minutes on each side. Serve immediately and enjoy.


Tip: Reserve some of the marinade as a flavoring for a homemade gravy for your "steak".
